The ‘need to knows’ about our activities cover

Fun as they sound, there are some activities that we simply can't cover, such as canyoning, bull running or diving in wrecks.

Activities where there’s a significant risk of bodily injury can only be covered if they are specifically listed in our PDS. So always check first if your planned activities can be covered and then ensure you purchase the right sports/adventure pack to cover them. Our A-Z list below can help you find out what activities are included under which sports/adventure pack.

Cover for sports and adventure activities not specifically mentioned in our policy documents may be available by special agreement. If you’re looking to cover an activity that’s not listed below, then please contact us to discuss your needs.

What we can cover:

Overseas medical expenses and repatriation if you get injured while taking part in a covered sport or activity

Necessary and reasonable costs for transporting you to hospital if you injure yourself while taking part in a covered sport or activity. This includes helicopter transportation where necessary

Certain cover for volunteering or working, or as a coach or guide in some of the activities listed below. As a coach or guide you may need a different level of cover for the activity than if you were just a participant. Click here for information on our work and volunteering travel insurance options

What we can’t cover:

Any professional sports, or sports and adventure activities for which you receive payment

Competitive races involving the use of vehicles or watercraft

Personal liability related to the ownership, possession or use of motorised vehicles, watercraft, airborne craft (or aerial activities), animals in your care, custody or control, or any work activity (whether paid or voluntary)

Cover for sports equipment

For those looking to cover their equipment as well as themselves, there are some important things to be aware of:

Cover for winter sports equipment like skis, snowboards and toboggans is available provided Winter Sports Cover has been purchased. See Section 16 of the PDS for details

Other types of sports equipment can be covered up to the policy's valuables limit, subject to the following exclusions:

Sports equipment that is damaged while in use

Any loss or damage to watercraft (e.g. surfboards), or to pedal or motor cycles

Unattended equipment (unless locked in secure self-contained accommodation) or equipment in checked baggage

You can check our cover limits at step two of the online quote process.
