Is the road calling you?
This is your chance to hit the open road in your rental car with total freedom on your next adventure. There’s no need to risk a large excess bill with our rental vehicle insurance excess waiver – so you can relax and enjoy your trip without worrying about sky-high costs if you come unstuck.
We say, it’s always best to be prepared, even if you’re a fantastic driver. And why not? There’s unlimited things to do, places to go and people to see. This is the great thing about hiring a car; but if you find yourself needing to claim after a prang, you don’t want to be handed a huge bill.
That’s why our travel insurance comes with rental vehicle excess waiver as standard, so you can get behind the wheel without any worries.
What is covered with our rental car insurance excess waiver?
Our rental vehicle car insurance excess waiver covers up to the amount stated in the schedule for reimbursement of a rental vehicle insurance excess.
What does that mean in plain English?
When you hire a car, it should state in your rental car policy that in the event of a car accident, you will be liable for a certain amount of excess.
Columbus Direct travel insurance includes rental vehicle excess waiver as standard, This means we will pay up to AU$5,000 for your rental vehicle excess. (The fee is essentially ‘waived’ – meaning you don’t have to pay for it).
We’ll only pay your excess if you have complied with the terms and conditions of the rental hire vehicle contract. Valid collision damage insurance must be in force on the vehicle. For more info, please refer to section 12 of our PDS.
If others are going to be driving the rental car, they will only be covered if they also have a valid travel insurance policy in place with us.
What we don't cover under rental vehicle excess waiver
Under this policy, you are NOT covered for anything that’s listed under the General Exclusions of our travel insurance policy. We also don’t cover any amount you’re liable to pay because you’ve accepted an additional excess to reduce the hire fee for your rental car.
